Congratulations to seasoned boat racer Justin Heap K75 for winning this years Blokart Nationals.
In fact, all the medal places went to sailors of the bobbing variety -the 2005 winner Pete Newlands
taking second with Mrs Heap, Gwen cruising to 3rd place.
An original race format which once understood ( yes it took me a while!) proved invaluable in producing
both overall and category results in a situation where it was not practicable for all the blokarts to race at once.
The running order went like this: The whole fleet divided into two - all the heavyweights and one tonners
in one group and everyone else, middle, light and flys in the other. The first two races involved these complete groups. The
first across the line after the 10 minute race time in each weight and class were entered into the round final. The
second and third placed, again in each weight and class, were entered into separate races. The winners in the ‘3rd
place race’ each went to the final and the 2nd placed to the race populated by 2nd placed karters
from previous races. And so on…Are you still with me? This allowed a mix of weights and classes in races and an overall
result as well as category results.
