UNDO WHEEL NUT TO REMOVE STUB AXLE -YOU MAY NEED TO GIVE THE AXLE A FEW TAPS TO PUSH IT OUT.
STEP 2
TAP OUT EACH BEARING SET FROM IN TO OUT VIA A LARGE-ISH SCREW-DRIVER
STEP 3
USING A SHARP POINTY KNIFE ( ASK MUMMY OR DADDY TO DO THIS FOR YOU ) , CAREFULLY PRISE OUT THE SEALS. CLEAN
ANY GREASE/DIRT OFF THE SEALS WITH A CLEAN CLOTH/KITCHEN ROLL AND PUT THEM IN A SAFE PLACE.
STEP 4
CLEANING BEARINGS- YOU HAVE CHOICES…
A). petrol .
NON- SMOKERS :DROP BEARING SETS IN A SMALL CONTAINER OF PETROL AND LIGHTLY AGITATE. USE RAG TO FURTHER CLEAN
- AN AIR-LINE IS IDEAL TO BLAST OUT STUBBORN BLOBS IN THERE. DRY WITH RAG.
DO NOT GET PETROL ON THE SEALS !!
B). oil
COOKS: PLACE BEARINGS IN YOUR FAVOURITE PAN WITH SOME HEATED OLIVE OIL . [ADD SOME CRUSHED GARLIC AND CHILLI
PEPPERS FOR PIQUANCY IF YOU LIKE.]
MUCK WILL COME OUT NICELY. DRY WITH KTCHEN ROLL.
STEP 5
REPLACE SEALS.
NOW THEN, IF YOU ONLY PUT BACK ONE SEAL ON EACH SET (THE ONES THAT YOU’LL SEE ON THE OUTSIDE
OF THE WHEEL) THOSE LITTLE BALLS WILL BE UNDER LESS PRESSURE AND RUN LIKE BILLY-O.
THE UNSEALED SIDE WILL BE INSIDE THE WHEEL SAFE FROM SAND AND DIRT AND WITH AXLE OUT, YOU CAN
ABSOLUTELY DRENCH INSIDE WITH YOUR SPRAY LUBE !!
STEP 6
SPRAY
WHAT TO USE? WELL, WD40 IS OK
TEFLON BASED e.g. GT85 IS ALSO GOOD.
STEP 7
RE-ASSEMBLE. ALWAYS TIGHTEN WHEEL NUTS ATTACHED TO KART WITH THE SHORT AXLES - TORQUE THROUGH THE LONG
ONES MAY CAUSE A NASTY CRACKING SOUND.
STEP 8
CUP OF TEA AND A FEW DIGESTIVE BISCUITS.
N.B. YOUR WHEELS WILL RUN BETTER BUT WILL BE NOISIER.
